The Four Corners of Deceit

I have been waiting with bated breath for Rush to weigh in on the so-called "War on Christmas," but he said nary a peep until the 22nd, and I nearly missed it.

First of all, let's address the term "War on Christmas."  I understand that when a privileged class is asked to accommodate other groups, the first reaction of privilege is to feel defensive and push back.  It has ever been so, and Rush Limbaugh himself is so larded with entitlement that it seems redundant to point it out.

The same is true for conservative Christians in America, who insist on framing a request for understanding and empathy as a "war."  America is not a Christian country, despite what these deluded characters may think, and there are a lot of other fairly prominent religions represented here.  Just because Target uses the word "Holiday" in its marketing (the better to appeal to everyone) that doesn't threaten your own enjoyment of your own Christmas.  Why so combative?

So I'm reading along with Rush's latest screed on the War on Christmas, and chuckling at his blowhard language, as I tend to do.  Then I hit a passage which made me stop and raise my eyebrows in surprise.

"All this stuff comes from these pointy-headed elites in academia, which is one of the Four Corners of Deceit in our country today. Government, Media, Acedemia [sic], and Science are the Four Corners of Deceit. "

Even for Rush, that's pretty "Whoa."  The Four Corners of Deceit!  A phrase clearly chosen to resonate with the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, and thus managing to drag the Book of Revelations into a discussion about whether or not Santa Claus is too fat.

Now first of all, I have to side with Wanda Sykes.  If Rush wants to decry "Science" as one of the Four Corners of Deceit, then he has no business using a cell phone, having a website, or broadcasting his show over the radio waves using Clear Channel's satellite network.  Don't like Science?  Feel free to GTFO.

Second of all, I find it interesting that Rush chose "Media" as one of the Four Corners.  Now, let me stop and think about this a minute.  Yes.  It is true.  Rush Limbaugh, one of the country's most popular radio talk show hosts, IS A MEMBER OF THE MEDIA.  You know what else is "Media"?  Fox News, which is where Rush gets his information.  WTF, Rush?

Academia is an obvious one.  Rush Limbaugh (who flunked out of community college after two semesters) has always carried a chip on his shoulder about higher education.  This must be a riot at family get-togethers, because his family is filled with well educated lawyers and judges.

I find it particularly amusing, because if you asked me to name my personal Four Corners of Deceit, Ultra-Conservative Media Whores would definitely be the first corner.  (Although sad to say, Glenn Beck makes Rush look like the voice of reason sometimes.)  Religion would definitely be Corner #2.  Marketing would be corner #3.

I honestly can't decide what to put in Corner #4.  Any suggestions?
