Rush Limbaugh Has No Sympathy For Haiti

Be the First to Comment!

Haiti National PalaceHaiti National PalaceIn the wake of what will certainly go down in history as one of the biggest disasters in modern history, Rush Limbaugh has nothing to say about the suffering of the Haitian people.  Unlike many (all?) other media figures, he does not call upon his listeners to donate to a worthy non-political charity which is working to help the Haitian people.  Doctors Without Borders, for example, is completely apolitical; surely even Rush Limbaugh would support them?

Instead, Rush says only one thing about the Haitian disaster.  He smarmily intones that the Obama administration will use it to boost their credibility with the "light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country."  First of all, Rush's comment presents the case as if every single Haitian was non-white.  Haiti, being an actual country in the actual real world, does have white residents.  Second of all, it cynically slashes the legs out from under anything the Obama administration does to assist Haiti.

If there was any time to set aside political issues and campaign for the assistance of fellow human beings, wouldn't you say that the Haiti quake would be that time?  But no.

Rush has also attacked Obama for "leaping into action" on Haiti, while waiting three days to comment on the underpants bomber.  The problem with this comparison should be obvious to anyone with an intellect greater than a toddler's: the underpants bomber situation had no action item.  Unlike the underpants bomber, who was taken safely into custody, there are hundreds of thousands of people in Haiti who are dying RIGHT NOW.  As you read these very words.

In his transcript, Rush sneers that "[Obama] lives for serving those in misery."  I'm sorry, is that a bad thing?  How corrupt and withered must your soul be, to think that's a bad thing?  You know who else lived to serve those in misery?  Clearly not Rush Limbaugh, who is apparently not going to donate a single red cent to help Haiti.

Rush then tilts off into familiar territory, made bizarre by its context.  He rips on Haiti for being poor, because it was ruled by a series of Communist dictators.  That is our future, according to Rush, if we keep letting Obama's administration run unchecked across our once great nation.  Rush goes deep into analysis of the Haitian political and economic system, without once acknowledging that it has been flattened by an earthquake and people are dying.  Literally as he speaks, people are dying.  The hospital has collapsed.  And yet Rush Limbaugh continues to blither on about how Haiti's poverty should be a warning to conservative America with regards to our own economic policies WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS MAN.

Aside from his complete lack of affect or sympathy - which I found surprising, even for Rush Limbaugh - is it just me, or does he sound completely drunk in this audio clip?  Like, washted off his ashh drunk.  I'd consider that to be an unfair criticism, except that in light of his bizarre behavior on this topic, maybe it's plausible.
