Rush Weighs In On Roman Polanski Situation
Roman PolanskiIn a very small way, Rush Limbaugh and I are in agreement on something here. It doesn't happen often, but I always try to mention it when it happens, because I don't want to be accused of being insincere or untruthful.
Rush Limbaugh believes that Roman Polanski is a sexual predator and a child rapist, and that Switzerland was right to arrest him. And you know what? I agree. He wonders whether women are saddened by the list of actors and directors who are signing the petition to cut Roman Polanski some slack. And you know what? I am. I'm saddened that anyone would sign that petition, frankly.
It doesn't matter to me that it's being signed by Hollywood icons, because frankly Hollywood icons are not actually icons to me. Actors don't mean anything to me, and I don't take their opinions to be more important (certainly more informed) than that of anyone else. I know Rush would be puzzled by this, because he assumes that Hollywood pipes the tune and the Left dances along, but it's true.
Unfortunately, Rush veers away from his core point - which is solid - which is that Roman Polanski drugged and raped a 13 year old girl, and he should not be forgiven for that. He veers away and uses it to paint all of Hollywood with a broad brush, and an unpleasant brush, at that.
This kind of thing always amuses me. Hollywood IS a haven for homosexuals and you know what? That is AWESOME. Because in Hollywood, people can be who they really are without being subject to the kind of hate that Rush Limbaugh's listeners dole out on a daily basis, and which Rush Limbaugh fiercely propagates.
There are two interesting things about this particular Stack Of Stuff event. First, that Rush Limbaugh discusses the whole entire thing without once reverting to the phrase "Feminazi." I'm not sure if I have ever seen Rush discuss women's issues without dropping the Feminazi bomb. Obviously the reason he refrains this time is because for once, he is on the same side as the "Feminazis."
Oh if only Rush would acknowledge that the world isn't black and white, that sometimes you can agree with the other side, and that by using the word "Feminazi" he only propagates misogyny and deepens the rift between male and female.
The other interesting thing is that he ends with the assertion that "this is not the culture the American people thought they were voting for, way back when." This statement deserves a whole entire paper on its own, frankly.
How can you confuse the situation so badly that you think the presidential election is where we vote on a CULTURE? Much less that a culture can be imposed upon people against their will? Obviously this confusion is where we get the "brainwashing school kids" hysteria.
What they obviously fail to realize is that your culture is what you make it. Culture arises from people, and not the other way around. And when we vote in the presidential election, we are voting for the president, not some kind of half baked "culture vote" that sounds like something that would happen in a bad Star Trek: The Original Series planet.
