Chupacabra-esque Greta Van Susteren Intentionally Racist?

Add Comment

So it looks like Fox "News" and their celebrity wine opener Greta Van Susteren are up to something fishy again. I'ts not enough to terrify the elderly on a daily basis but now they have the gall to be openly racist on the air? How hard is it to tell two completely different looking, news worthy, older African American women apart? Granted the "news" over on Fox is not journalism at its best but have somebody take a minute away from the propaganda machine to discern who is who! It is not like it was a late night mugging and you picked the wrong guy because they "all look the same" ... or is it?

"Pamela In Baltimore" Gets Rush Running Scared

Add Comment

This two minute call, archived here on the Media Matters website, is a real treasure.  Pamela in Baltimore, we salute you!

The greatness starts just a few seconds in, when Rush is audibly startled to discover that his current caller is a black woman.  She prepares to read Rush the riot act, in as calm and sensible a manner as you could ever hope to hear.  So many anti-Rush callers allow him to bait them into flipping out, stuttering and stammering through their spluttering screeds.  Not Pamela!

Pamela starts by taking Rush to task for his comments about Obama spending his birthday night alone.  You can hear a really unpleasant whine in Rush's voice as he backpedals, pointing the finger at the AP for having used the word "bachelor" in their story about Obama spending his birthday alone.

Edith VogelhutEdith VogelhutRoman Polanski Serial Rapist?! A beast?!

Freed by the Swiss, where justice goes not to the just, but can be brought by the rich, Roman Polanski struts among his cinema and art friends, to them child rape doesn't seem to matter. Now a new tale: In 1974, Edith Vogelhut, then a twenty one year old, says Polanski drugged her (gave her MDMA, Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, commonly known as Ecstasy), manhandled her, handcuffed her and then raped her, sodomized her repeatedly. (anal sex). This happened in the same house, where three years later, he drugged and raped a 13 year old girl.

Girls Gone Wild Can Strip You Without Your Consent

In 2005 a woman goes to a bar, planning to drink and party.  Turns out the "Girls Gone Wild" video team is there.  Signs are posted.  However, she refuses to sign the consent form.  If there is a more clear way to signal "I do not consent" than refusing to sign a consent form, I can't think of it.

As she's dancing, the video camera is moving through the crowd.  As she turns away from the camera, a hand reaches out from behind it and pulls off her shirt.

She says "No no no no," pulls it back up, and turns away.  Again - that's a pretty clear sign of not giving consent.  Saying "no" and putting your top back on.

But somehow she ends up on the Girls Gone Wild tape anyway.  And when she sues?  The jury finds in favor of Girls Gone Wild.

The Limbaugh Mouth

Add Comment

"Rush Limbaugh Uses George Steinbrenner's Death to Race-Bait" says this morning headline on Chciago Now.

Rush Limbaugh is a man so full of himself, full of anger, full of hate that he can't seem to help himself. When I think of him I remember who he is, a user. I am not just referring to drugs. He claims he has quit using them. He signed an agreement back in 2006 with Florida Prosecutors to let him off easy, following his drug bust, if he underwent drug testing, among other things. See the link.

Maybe he is free of drugs and is just full of bile.

Rush Limbaugh In Favor of Childhood Obesity

Add Comment

This week Rush had a typically off-base collection of rants regarding the lawsuit which the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) brought against McDonalds regarding the toys in their Happy Meals.

For one thing, Rush calls this a "kook leftist attack," but saying that McDonalds makes you fat is not exactly fringe science.  Nor is it a political question.  I think most right wing conservatives would quietly agree that McDonalds food is bad for you.  I mean, it's McDonalds, for pity's sake!

Anyway.  CSPI wants McDonalds to stop including toys, because they only encourage kids to buy unhealthy foods, and firm up that link between "McDonalds food" and "super happy fun time."  Which of course then makes kids fat.

Republican Pep Rally for BP

Add Comment

Is it surprising?  Nope, not for a second.  Recently, right-wing 'intellect,' Rush Limbaugh, took aim at the Republicans that demanded Texas Representative Joe Barton apologize for his apology he told to BP CEO Tony Hayward.  On his radio show Monday, through CNN, "Limbaugh suggested the GOP leadership likely agrees with Barton's sentiments, but are driven by recent national polls which suggest the majority of Americans support President Barack Obama's push for BP to set aside $20 billion for future liability claims."

Sarah Palin: World's Worst Feminist

Look, you can call something anything you want, but that doesn't make it true.  I can call my 1986 Saab 9000 a fixie, a Jeep, or a chocolate doughnut.  That doesn't make it hipster cool, appropriate for off-road driving, or good with sprinkles.

And yet, some people have the gall to do just that: announce that "X is Y, and devil take the hindmost, it's the gosh-darned truth!  Why?  Because I said so, that's why!"  Sarah Palin is the latest example of this, as she continues to attempt to co-opt the term "feminist" to mean something other than, you know, FEMINIST.
